* DOMINION TOURNAMENT
MRS W. CORBET WINS SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP
With the exception of one handicap doubles match, the New Zealand croquet tournament was completed at the United Club's green yesterday. The final of the South Island women's championship resulted in a win for Mrs W. Corbet (Invercargill), who beat Mrs Palmer (Christchurch). '26-10, 26-17. Several handicap matches were also played. During the afternoon, prizes won at the tourney were presented by the president of the New Zealand Croquet Council. (Mr R. McCreath), who thanked all those who had assisted in making a success of the tournament. On behalf of. the competitors, presentations were made to Mrs J. P. Maddren and Mrs D. Pullar, manager and assistant-manager of the tournament. ~ , The following are the results ot matches played yesterday:—
South Island Championship Final—Mrs W. Corbet beat Mrs Palmer, 26-10, 26-17.
A Grade Handicap Singles
Fourth Round—A. Gibbs (Patea) 26, beat G. Hart (Timaru) 7. Semi-final—F. Blunt (Christchurch) 26, beat A. Gibbs 14. Final—This game between F. Blunt and Captain Hartnell is in progress and will be completed this morning.
Handicap Doubles
Third Round—Mrs Hrrtnell and Miss Pen-in 26, beat Mrs Evans and A. Gibbs 22. Fourth Round—Mesdames rv.os and Weir 26. beat Mrs Hartnell and Miss Pcrrin 19; Mr and Mrs F. Blunt 26. beat Mesdames Palmer and Thompson 15. Semi-finals—A. F. G. Ross and F. Dunn 26, beat Mesdames Bates and Were 20; R. McCreath and Mrs Belts 26. beat Mr and Mrs Blunt 19. Final—R. McCreath and Mrs Belts 26, beat A. Ross and F. Dunn 11. ,
