FISHERMAN DROWNED

LAUNCH CAPSIZES ON BAR

WHAKATANE, January 28.

At 7 o'clock this morning the small fishing launoh AB while making port from Whale Island was caught by a big sea on the bar. The launch capsized, and the occupant, Albert Blank, a Swiss resident of Whakatane pa, was washed overboard and drowned. The capsize of the launch was seen by the harbourmaster (Captain Wheelock), who telephoned a message to the wharf. Wright's trawler left for the scene, and salvaged the launch. The body has not yet been recovered.

A five-seater sedan car driven by Mr Walter L. Kilner. Western terrace, Beckenham. struck a kerbing when one of its back tyres burst, in Fuller street, Kaiapoi, last evening. The car turned over on its side and was considerably damaged, but the driver and his six passengers escaped with only slight bruises.
