PROVINCIAL COUNCIL BUILDING
TO THE EDITOR OP THE I>RESS.
Sir,—To say that lam exasperated is putting it mildly. In Christchurch is the Provincial Council Building, one redolent with early, memories, a gem of architecture reflecting credit upon its designer, its' builder, and all those whose enterprise and effort rendered its existence possible. Yet within this two days I have approached nine people, all residents, and eight of these profess entire ignorance of this edifice. The saddest feature is that in these eight are to be found a majority of those with reasonable claims to education and culture, and in at least one case definite and certain well-developed and proved artistic abilities. That any section of the community should show such indifference is indeed lamentable; but when those of the kind I have indicated betray no concern, what hope is there?— Yours, etc., HORACE E. HERRING. Ashburton, January 45, 1937.
