SUNDAY TRAINS

TO THE EDJTOB Of THB PKBBB Sir, —Are there any excursion trains running from Ashburton to Christchurch on Sunday now that the Timaru trains are cancelled? Surely it would be payable. I, for one, would patronise such a train and I am sure many more would. Ashburton is not the epidemic area. Living in hopes of hearing that an excursion train from Ashburton will be running the coming Sunday, and many more Sundays.—Yours, etc., CHERTSEY. January 11, 1937. [This letter .was referred to the District Traffic Manager, who stated that the restrictions placed on Sunday train services were due to the epidemic. Failing the general restriction being lifted, however, the Railway Department hoped to be running suitable services between Christchurch and Ashburton on Sunday week (January 24).]
