INTERNATIONAL PIANO CONTEST
TRIBUTE TO FRENCH COMPOSER An annual international pianoforte competition, in honour of Gabriel Faure. one of the most famous of modern French composers, has been instituted by the Societe des Amis de Gabriel Faure, founded by Mme. Henry Jouvenel, who is now president. The first competition will be held at Paris from February 15 to February 28 next. The competition is open to pianists of all nationalities who have not passed the age of 30 years on January 1. The successful candidate will receive the Henry de Jouvenel prize of 5000 francs (approximately £SO) and a royalty of 1 franc 25 cents on every recording of his performance sold. Entries for the competition closed on January 1. There will be two eliminating' tests and a final test. Twenty candidates will be chosen from the first test, and four of these will be selected for the final test. The work to be played is the sixth nocturne by Faur6. The decisions will be made by a panel of judges, on a majority vote. During the contest, if the judges find that a candidate shows an outstanding insufficiency of technique, the president reserves the right to break off the performance. The winner of the prize will be required to appear at a public concert in honour of Faur6. The address for communications is the Association Francaise d'Action Artistique, 8 rue Montpensier, Paris.
