WESTPORT CLUB’S EVENING MEETING A temporary cessation in the heavy ram on Thursday enabled the Westport Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club to hold its weekly evening meeting in Victoria square. Results:— ' Men’s 100 Yards—A, Jost, scr, 1; D. Strachan, 4yds, 2; R. Smith, 4yds. 3. Jost won by a yard and Smith was about half a yard behind Strachan. Mile Cyqle Race— I T. Marr, ..50yds, 1; J. Hunter,, 100 yds, 2; S. Johnson, scr, 3. There were only three starters. Marr won by a wheel, and the third man was well back. Men’s 220 Yards —A. D. Strachan, scr 1; A. Jost, scr. 2; R. Smith, Byds, 3. Strachan came in a foot ahead of Jost, with Smith only a few inches back. Two Mile Cycle Race—J. Hunter, 200 yds. 1; T. Marr, 50yds, 2; S. Johnson, scr. 3. Won easily by a third of a lap. WESTPORT PERSONAL NOTES Mr P. Whitehead, of the Bank of New Zealand staff, has left* Westport on transfer to the Lawrence uranch of the bank. He will be succeeded by Mr R. Hay-McKenzie.. who is expected to reach Westport next week. Miss Joyce Crutterden, of Palmerston North, who has been visiting friends in Westport, left for Wellington yesterday. Mr W. P. Smith, chief postmaster at Westport, has received notice of his transfer on promotion to the position of chief postmaster at Greymouth. Mr Smith takes a keen interest in bowling. and is at present secretary of the Buffer centre.
