TESTS OF GOAL DEPOSITS
CONSTRUCTION OP CAMP BEGUN The building of a camp for the men to be engaged on the boring of the Blackburn flats to determine the extent and quality of coal deposits located there was begun this week by a gang of five men in charge of a mining supervisor. These men are employed on full time rates of pay, and it is anticipated that it will take about three months to build the camp. The testing of this ground is being undertaken in accordance with a decision made by the Minister for Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb) at the request of the Buller county engineer (Mr C. F. Schadick), and it is hoped that if the field proves extensive enough the Government may consider establishing a low temperature carbonisation plant there.
