ELECTION OF. CAPTAIN HUBBARD (Received January 7; 8.10 p.m.) LONDON, January 6. Captain R. L. F. Hubbard, of the Orient Line, has been elected an Elder Brother of Trinity House. MORE RATES PAID THIS YEAR e RETURNS FOR WAIMATE borough The Waimate Borough Council office shared in the increased business just before Christmas, and a substantial rise in the amount of rates received was shown over the previous year. Before the Christmas holidays £2087 had been received out of a total rate demand of £6873, Last year at the corresponding date ,£1537 had been collected out of a total of £6368. On Wednesday last about £2OO was paid in. Four hundred and nine motor drivers’ licenses have been issued so far, showing an increase of 50 over the number issued by the corresponding date last year.
