CONVERSION OF TWO VEHICLES
LABOURER'S DESIRE TO REACH AUCKLAND (FBKSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAJI.) AUCKLAND, December 28. Desiring to reach Auckland, Leonar* Marmaduke Walker, aged 21, » labourer, converted a car valued at £SO, the property of the Whangarei Engineering Company, at Whangarei on Christmas Day. He ran short ox petrol at Kaiwaka, and abandoned tne car and walked to Wellsford, where, the next day, he converted a new motor-truck valued at £250, the property of the International Harvester Company. He ran the truck into a bank, casing damage to the extent of £IOO. H<j walked into Auckland and surrendered n to the police. .. \ Walker appeared at the Magistrates j Court, and pleaded guilty to two charges of conversion, and also of driving without a license. The police saw that the young man was regarded a» subnormal. He had had no food for 24 hours before giving himself up. He was convicted on the three charges, and remanded till January * pending a report.
