DRAINAGE BOARD ELECTION
LA BO I" R CANDIDATES CHOSEN Miss Mabel Howard and Mr S. M. Clinch have been chosen to contest, in the interests of the Labour party, the election for two scats on the Christchurch Drainage Board made vacant by tire resignation of Messrs T. H. Butterfield and G. H. W. Winter, who have lost their rcsidenlial qualifications. Those candidates were chosen by the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee at a recent meeting. In announcing the selection, the secretary of the committee (Mr R. M. Macfarlane) said that Miss Howard would contest the Heathcotc sub-district seat, previously held by Mr Butterfield, and Mr Clinch would be the candidate for the city south-west sub-district, represented previously by Mr Winter. Miss Howard has been a member of the Christchurch City Council and Mr Clinch is a member of the executive of the General Labourers’ Union and a delegate to the Labour Representation Committee. The chairman of the Christchurch Citizens’ Association (Mr W. S. MacGibbon) said that the association would almost certainly contest the election, but no candidates would be selected until after the New Ygar holidays.
