WORCESTER STREET RECONSTRUCTION
DUS ROUTE TO BE CHANGED Arrangements have been made by the Tramway Board for the alteration of the route of its buses from Worcester street to Gloucester street, to enable the reconstruction of Worcester street to be carried out more expeditiously. This was announced at a meeting of the board on Saturday. The chairman (Mr G. Manning) said that the City Council was anxious to reconstruct Worcester street as expeditiously as possible, and had asked the board to deviate the buses from Worcester street to Gloucester street. The trolley-buses, however, cannot be deviated, because of the absence of overhead lines in Gloucester street. The Mayor (Mr J. W. Beanland) had however, agreed to the proposal that Diesel buses from the railway on the out journey should use Worcester street as far as Manchester street, thence go along Manchester street and Gloucester street to Olliviers road. On the in journey these buses would run via Gloucester street to Stanmore road, thence along Stanmore road to Worcester street, following the trolley-bus route to the Square. It was understood, Mr Manning added, that a fresh arrangement would be made after a fair trial of this proposal.
