Young and her son (Cashmere Hills) will leave to-day to spend a holiday at Pembroke. Mr and Mrs F. John Needham and Misses Patricia and Heathcote Needham (Merivale lane) will leave on Wednesday for Te Mahia, Picton Sounds. Mrs F. L. Webb will leave to-mor-row for Wellington to connect with the Awatea for Sydney, where she will arrive on December 24. Thence she will go by train to Melbourne for six weeks'holiday. : Mrs T. J. Thurnau (Wellington) is staying at the United Service Hotel. Mrs R. G.-C. Ffitch (Khandallah), who has been for a visit to Ceylon and India, will return to Wellington by the Awatea on Monday. Mrs Ffitch represented the New Zealand Young Women's Christian Association at the Eastern Regional Conference at Colombo, and at the conference of- jthe World's Committee of the Young Women's Christian Association at Kandy. Mrs A. L. Hart, of St. Paul's College, Sydney University, will arrive in Christchurch next week to spend a holiday with her sister in Manchester street north. . Mr and Mrsß. Pike (Colombo street) will leave on Monday for the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers, where they will spend the Christmas holidays. Mrs Neate (Leinster road) and her son, Mr J. L. Neate, will leave for Sydney by the Awatea on Monday. Mrs E. J. Milburn arrived in Wellington from London by the Rangitane on Wednesday night. This is. her seventh summer visit to-New Zealand.. She is going to Taupo and will remain in New Zealand until March. Mrs H. J. Nash gave a farewell bridge party in honour of Mrs A. P. Kaye Thomson, who will leave next week for Wellington, en route to England. Those present were Mrs Kaye Thomson, Mrs L. Wills, Mrs A. Elley, Mrs L. McCaskill, Mrs H. Cook, Misses B. Hilliary, G. FOURTH CONFERENCE

PAN PACIFIC WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS The latest Pacific mails bring news of much preparation for the next conference of the Pan-Pacific Women's Association, to be held in Vancouver, Canada from July 12 to 24, 1937. Mrs T. E. Taylor, New Zealand chairwoman of the Pan-Pacific Women's Association, has received information that already space has been provisionally reserved for delegates at the Vancouver Hotel at five dollars and six dollars a day. Also that Mrs Gauntlett, .' of Japan, International president of the Pan-Pacific Women's Association," has returned from a mission of goodwill from the women, of Japan to the women of China, and, in spite of the strained relations between the Governments of these two countries, it is confidently hoped that delegates.from both will meet at Vancouver, and at roundtables there, will discuss their problems with the other women of the Pacific area. The conference theme is to be "Practical ways and means of promoting peaca." To this end six topics and one special rcund table on the "Traffic in Women" form the study bases for the conference. The topics include "Youth movements for Peace," "The Traffic in Arms," "Formation of Public Opinion," "A socialised Health Programme." "The Adjustment of Education to meet changing Social Conditions." Mrs ReiChbeth, of Western 'Australia, is International chairwoman I for the question of the "Traffic in , Women in the Far East." Dame Rachel Crowdv. late of the League of Nations, and a member of the British Arms Commission will outline the topic. "The Traffic in Arms." for study groups. New Zealand Delegates Dr. Ada Paterson. of New Zealand, has been asked to act as chairwoman for "A Socialised Health Programme," and Mrs Marie Keesing. also of New Zealand, is in charge of a study on "Population Pressures." j Dr. Georgina Sweet, first Pacific vice--1 president, has been working in the interests of the conference at Geneva. She will visit Turkey, India, China, and Jaoan en her wa,y to Honolulu and Vancouver for the July conference. Dr. Mary Cady. executive secretary of the Young Women's Christian Association. Honolulu, is the conference programme director, and Dean Bollert, Dean of Women at the University of British Columbia, will be chairwoman of the conference. In New Zealand national chairwomen have been appointed for each topic and work in preparation for the delegates to the conference has been going on in som° cases for over 18 months.
