PENNANT COMPETITION

GREENS IN GOOD ORDER The greens were in splendid order for the second round of the Christchurch Bowling Centre’s pennant competition on Saturday afternoon. The round was to have been played on the previous Saturday, but rain caused a postponement. The Riccarton Racecourse Club's games against Canterbury and Aulsebrook’s were postponed on account of the races at Riccarton. SHOW DAY TOURNAMENT

Sixteen rinks, representing 10 clubs, took part in the bowling tournament held by the Shirley Bowling Club. Mr J. McIndoe (president) welcomed the visitors and announced the rules of the day. Luncheon and afternoon tea were provided by the ladies’ section of the club. Mr Renton, on behalf of the visiting bowlers, thanked the Shirley ladies for their entertainment, and Mrs- Mclndoe (lady president) acknowledged the thanks. The Kaiapoi Working Men’s Club rink, skipped by Monk, went through the day Without a loss, winning all five games. Williams’s Shirley rink took second place with wins. The winners were Healings, Hartley, Simpson, Monk (s).
