SAN FRANCISCO’S NEW BRIDGE
A GREAT WORK COMPLETED

SAN FRANCISCO, November 13. The 77,000,000 dollar bridge across San Francisco Bay, the longest jn the world over navigable t waters, which links San Francisco and Oakland, was opened amid scenes of great entnusiasm. It is estimated tnat 125,U0U people attended the opening. The Governor of California uvlr Merriam), using an acetylene toren, cut tnrougn a gold cnam wnile 14 warships ured tneir guns. Mr Roosevelt, at Washington, pressed a button illuminating green xignts, whicn were tne signal for cars to start at tne rate of 200 a minute. Tne first car carried Mr H. C. Hoover and Mr Merriam. Tne bridge took three years to construct and 24 lives were lost in building the six-lane upper deck. The lower deck will be completed in 1938, and will carry trucks and railway lines.
