Sir Edward Harding, Permanent Undersecretary of State in the Dominions Office, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning, accompanied by Lady Harding and Mr F. E. Dwyer, of the staff of the Department of Internal Affairs. They are staying at Warner’s Hotel. Sir Edward and Lady Harding made a call on their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Galway at the United Service Hotel yesterday morning, and afterwards visited the Royal Show and the trotting meeting at Addington. They will leave for the Hermitage this morning, and will later return to Wellington to leave on the Wanganella on Thursday. The Marquess of Hartington, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Dominions, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning, accompanied by the Marchioness of Hartington and his private secretary, Mr G. E. BoydShannon. They are staying at the United Service Hotel. The Hon. T. F. O’Byrne, M.L.C., arrived from Wellington yesterday morning and left for the south by the express. Mr J. S. Hawkes, secretary of the Automobile Association. Canterbury, returned from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr Clyde Carr, M.P., arrived from the north yesterday morning and left later for Timaru. Mr L. W. J. Clarkson, local traffic officer of Union Airways, returned from Dunedin yesterday by the Karoro after a brief business trip. Mr Ernest Healey, managing director of Varex, Limited, is visiting Christchurch.
