THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL

Their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Galway will leave Christchurch this evening on their return to Wellington, after spending three days in the city. To-day their Excellencies will attend the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting at Riccarton, and will visit the Christchurch Working Men’s Club in Oxford terrace about 5.30 p.m.

Yesterday morning, Lady Galway received Mrs H. T. J. Thacker, chairwoman of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. Their Excellencies, accompanied by Lord and Lady Hartington and Sir Edward and Lady Harding, visited Mr Edgar Stead at “Ham” before going to the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington. In the afternoon the party attended the Royal Show, and later called on Mrs George Gould at “Avonbank.” Their Excellencies in the evening attended the ball at the Winter Garden in aid of crippled children.
