TASMAN FLIGHT DELAYED
WEATHER MOST UNFAVOURABLE MR CLARK TO SEARCH FOR MISSING BOAT TRIP TO LORD HOWE ISLAND PROPOSED (CNTTED PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) (Received November 12, 1.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 11. The New Zealand aviator, Mr L. E. Clark, will not leave for Wigram aerodrome to-morrow, as the weather is most unfavourable. He hopes to leave on Friday between 3 and 4 a.m. He has received permission to leave from the Richmond Air Force aerodrome. Mr Clark received a cablegram from New Zealand to-day saying that his sheep are wet, and shearing is therefore postponed. Consequently there is not the same need to hurry home. In the meantime Mr Clark has offered his services for an aerial search for the missing launch Viking. The offer has been gratefully accepted by the Board of Control of Lord Howe Island, and the matter is now in the hands of the Minister for Defence at Canberra, whose consent is expected to-night. In that event Mr Clark will fly to Lord Howe Island and back to-morrow, carefully searching the sea and taking provisions and waterbags in case he should sight the craft. ARRANGEMENT FOR WELCOME PUBLIC SUPPORT APPEALED FOR An appeal to the public of Canterbury to give a fitting welcome to Mr L. E. Clark, the Canterbury Aero Club member, when he arrives at Wigram after his Tasman crossing, was made yesterday by Mr P. R. Climie, secretary of the Canterbury Aero Club. It was only proper, said Mr Climie, that Canterbury should recognise the achievement of one of its own airmen, if he should be successful in making the dangerous crossing. He hoped that a large crowd would be present at the aerodrome when Mr Clark arrived. It was possible also that a public reception would be arranged. [Mr Clark is a son of the late Mr L. E. Clark and a nephew of Mr Charles Clark, of Christchurch.]
