GOVERNMENT ASKED TO FOSTER INTEREST

(I'IIKSS ASSOCIATION TBLEGRA.M. I WELLINGTON. October 8. A deputation from the. League of Nations Union to the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M J. Savage) requested that the Government should take steps to develop greater appreciation of the work of the League of Nations. The deputation wrs anxious that the question should be taken up more widely in the schools and in broadcasting.

In his reply, Mr Savage said the view of his Govermne'ht was that the League of Nations was the only hope for world peace, and for planning in industry. Anything the Government could do to facilitate broadcasting would be dene. The other questions raised he would submit to the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry), including the idea of training men for administrative positions in Samoa.

A decision to hold a reunion at Geraldine on October 24 was made by members of the South Canterbury Mounted Rifles who served in the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces in 1914-18. and who met in Geraldine this week. Mr J. S. Barker presided. The following committee was appointed to make arrangements:—Messrs Barker, P. M. McKenzie (secretary), A. J. Black. J, R. Cotterill. and I. M. Bell.
