ANNUAL DANCE

The staff and Miniature Rifle Club of Hutchinson’s Motors, Ltd., combined to hold their annual dance at the Winter Garden last night, the ballroom being gaily decorated for the event with clusters of balloons and coloured streamers. An entertaining programme had been arranged, and the guests spent a pleasant time dancing to the music of the Bailey-Marston Orchestra. Trophies Presented Trophies won by members of the Miniature Rifle Club during the season were presented by Mr Hutchinson, as follows; —Possible shield, A.,J. Bruning; Thiele Cup, president’s aggregate, F. Osborne, sen.; Mrs Cochrane’s trophy, ladies’ highest aggregate, MissG. Prebble; Mr Hutchinson’s trophy, runner-up in junior team, Mr Cochrane; Mr Hutchinson’s trophy, runnerup in president’s team, F. Osborne, jnn.; small shield, highest handicap aggregate, A. Bruning; Wilson Cup, season’s highest aggregate, A. Bruning; Albert George Memorial Cup, season’s highest handicap, M. Hullett; monthly trophies, M. Krahagen, M. Hullett, F. Osborne, sen., A. Hughes, and N. Frestney. Arrangements were made by an. efficient committee, comprising Messrs C. W. Cochrane, W. L. McCallum, A. Bruning, D. Gemmell, M. Snook, E. Fletcher, and W. Walker. Guests The guests of honour were Mr Ormond Hutchinson, general manager, and Mrs Hutchinson, Mr A. Tongue, secretary of the Christchurch Miniature Rifle Association, and Mrs Tongue, and Mr and Mrs R. H, Neil. Mrs Hutchinson wore a frock of opal blue matalasse, and a black velvet coatee trimmed with a white organdie flower at the neckline; Mrs Tongue’s frock of black tulip lace was relieved with a spray of wine-coloured flowers at the neckline in front; and Mrs Neil wore a frock of myosotis blue cloque interwoven- with silver • thread. Sonja Henie, the 25-year-old champion woman skater of the world, has signed a five-year contract to make films in Hollywood for Darryl Zanuck, of the Twentieth Century-Fox Corporation. Her first picture will be “Peach Edition,” written by a Los Angeles sporting journalist Mr Zanuck, after three tests, is of opinion that Miss Henie’s acting will give the public a pleasant surprise.
