Last evening the Federation of University Women held a special evening reception in honour of the Dominion president of the federation, Mrs W. N. ISisW. Stewart welcomed Mrs Benson on behalf of the Canterbury Association. . .. Mrs Benson spoke to the member* of the work being done by the federation to extend' international co-opera- . tion. SAVIOUR’S ORPHANAGE \ In organising their annual entertainment to assist St Saviour’s Orphanage, members of the Good companions’ Club always haVe the support of’‘other former pupils of Rangi-ruru School. This year’s effort was a very enjoyable dance held last night in St. Mary’s Schoolroom, Merivale, and many young people spent a very enjoyable time dancing to the music of Fritz Seymour’s Orchestra. For those who did not wish to dance, bridge tables had been arranged. The schoolroom-had been gaily decorated with Rangi-ruru colours, yellow and wMte, ahd excellent arrangements for the comfort of their-guests, had'been made by the following committee of club members: Miss J, Hortli, Mrs W. A pleasant afternoon was spent in the West Eyreton Schoolroom, where the school children ahd residents of the districts gathered to say good-bye to Miss W. Peacock, who has been the assistant mistress at the West Eyreton School for several years, and has left to take up a position at southbrook. The children , sang several part-songs and bliss June Creamer sang a,solo. On behalf of the residents. Mr R. W. Thompson* chairman of the school committee,- presented Miss Peacock with. « 'tea-set. Mr Thompson cpoke pf the good qualities ■of Miss Pea Cock, and his remarks were endorsed by the master, Mr A. Chambers. For the school children, Jean Doak presented Miss Peacock with a crystal bowl. Mrs R. W. Bradley, on behalf of the tennis club, presented Miss Peacock With n crystal vase.

MR AND MBS D. DICK HONOURED

Prior to ’their departure for Lakeside, where Mr Dick has been appointed headmaster of the school, Mr and. Mrs Dick were entertained hy the residents of Barry’s- Bay, at a social ih the Oddfellows' Hall. . Mr J. Brocherie, chairman of the school committee, spoke in complimentary terms of the excellent Mr..Dick had done in the school and of the great improvement he had effected In the appearance of the grounds and buildings. Both Mr and Mrs Dick had. he said, taken an active part ih all that pertained to the welfare of the district. In making a presentation to them, Mr Brocheno expressed the best Wishes of all for their future happiness. Presentations were also made, on behalf of the boys, by Roy Hay lock to Mr Dick and to Mrs Dick by Nell Haylock, who spoke of the girls* appreciation of all she had done for them, Mr and Mrs Dick responded, both payihg tribute tb the kindliness of the residents,

The annual dance of the- Addington branch of the Hibernian Society was held in the Spencer Street Hall.
