. • —- RICHMOND BEATS BRIGHTON A debate between the New Brighton and Richmond branches of the New Zealand Labour party, “That the best defence policy for New Zealand lies along the lines of pacifism,” held at the monthly meeting of the New Brighton branch, attracted a good attendance. Among the visitors were members of the Christchurch North* Linwood, and Richmond branches. The debate was won by the Richmond branch, which took the affirmative, and was represented by Messrs J, Mathison, F. Kelso, and H. E. Denton. The speakers for the negative were Messrs J. R. C. Robertson, A. B. Grant, and N. B. Ford. The judge (Mr Alati A. Dingwall), in giving his verdict, said that the affirmative had gained six points more than the nega- ’ tive.
