PLEASURE TRIPS TO SOUTH ISLAND

NEW VENTURE THIS SUMMER

One pleasure trip from Sydnfey to South Island ports exclusively by the Maunganui has been definitely arranged by the Union Steam Ship Company for this summer, and another is highly probable. The first, which is definite, will be made from Sydney on December 2. The Maunganui will reach Milford Sound on December 6 and will visit all the main southern sounds. She will also go to Stewart Island, and will allow a visit of a day to Dunedin and to Christchurch, the Christchurch date being December 10. A visit will then be paid to Queen Charlotte Sound, Picton, and Pelorus Sound. The other trip which is scheduled for January, will include the same itinerary. , The Maunganui will bring approximately 350 passengers on both trips. This is the first time such an ambitious programme has been attempted. An important event will take place towards the end of this month, when the Orion will initiate the cruise season from Australia. She will be the largest vessel to enter New Zealand waters. Her gross tonnage is 23,400 tons. She is due at Auckland on October 28, and will sail the next day for Wellington, where she will arrive'on October 31. She will leave for Sydney on November 1. It is expected that she will have 800 passengers aboard.
