A SELF SUPPORTING COMMUNITY
CROFTING EXPERIMENT IN SCOTLAND (aamsa omcui wibelbss.) RUGBY, August 19, An interesting experiment in crofting is being undertaken in Lanarkshire, Scotland, under the supervision of Professor Scott, of the Government agricultural training centre at Carstairs. Fourteen good industrial workers are engaged in the experiment and, with the aid of a Government grant of £2OOO, crofters are building and stocking workshops for carpentry and shoe repairing, a piggery, ‘ a cowshed, and a poultry farm.' In return for. their labour they will receive coupons, 10 units being allowed for a working hour. The coupons are exchangeable at a fixed rate for the produce of the community. The men will receive a full allowance from the labour exchange until the scheme is selfsupporting.
