Sir Archdale Parkhill, Federal Minister for Defence, said the Government regarded it as appropriate that Mascot aerodrome, which had so many historical associations with Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith’s flying career, should be selected as the most suitable air centre with which to link his name and achievements. Thus Darwin aerodrome in future will be known as the Ross Smith aerodrome, Darwin.
