THE NEW GERMAN AMBASSADOR
APPOINTMENT WELCOMED IN
LONDON
(BRITISH OTHCIAL WIKBLES3.)
RUGBY, August 12,
Herr von Ribbentrop’s appointment as German / Ambassador to London is welcomed by the press.
“The Times,” which remarks that there is no more obvious representative of modern Germany and of the present regime, says that he will be welcome, both for his own sake and also for the policy of co-opera-tion which he is believed to represent. It recalls that as a boy he was at school in England, and as a youth he worked in Canada.
Proceeding, “The Times” says: “He has a direct knowledge of the conditions and opinions in other countries, especially France, and he has an appreciation of the mind and general attitude of the people with whom he is to live. Our friendship with France is axiomatic. We Co not falter in that, but we believe that friendship could only be strengthened by a clear understanding with Germany. The best hopes for Herr von Ribbentrop’s work in England must be that, through closer contacts, such an understanding may be brought nearer.”
