RESUMING ISLAND SERVICE
MATUA DUE AT AUCKLAND TO-DAY [THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND. August 12. After a lapse of more than four years the Union Steam Ship Company’s regular island passenger and cargo service will be revived shortly by the company’s new motor-ship Matua, which is due from England via Rarotonga to-morrow on her maiden voyage. When the Tofua was withdrawn in April 1932, the company’s passenger service to the islands was abandoned after operating for more than 50 years, After being docked for refitting next week, the Matua is scheduled to sail for Tonga, Apia, and Suva bn August 27, returning to Auckland on September 9. On Seotember 10 she Is scheduled to sail for Cook Islands. A letter of appreciation of the action of the Union Steam Ship Company* in building the Matua for the Pacific island trade has been forwarded by the Chamber of Commerce to Mr N. S. Falla, managing-director of the company.
