RECONSTRUCTION OF SURFACE
WORK IN WORCESTER STREET 'AUTHORITY FOR IMMEDIATE START Authority has been given for the commencement of preliminary work in reconstructing the surface of Worcester street. Reporting to the council at its meeting last night, the works committee stated that preparatory work such as channel repairs and the making of covers could be put in hand immediately, and it had authorised this 1 work to be commenced. The council has estimated that all the work will cost about £II,OOO. , The report stated that it was understood the Tramway Board buses to replace the trams in Worcester street woulu be ready for use in two or three mentis, and it was assumed the use of trams would be discontinued as soon as the buses were ready. Thus it would seem possible that road reconstruction could be commenced about November, this being the best time of the year for the work. “The estimate allows for covering the channels from Cathedral square to Latimer square,” the report added, “and surfacing the road over the fun width for this distance. From Latimer square to Linwood avenue a strip of bitumen 25 feet wide only is to be laid and channel coverings will done only at the shopping centre near Stanmore road an I at other odd points where it will be necessary to relieve the camber of the road. Preparatory work such as channel repairs and the making of covers can be put in hand jiow and the committee has authorised the work to be proceeded with."
