ROAD RACING SEASON AVON CLUB’S EVENT AT MAIREHAU The Avon Amateur Cycling Club continued its road racing season on Saturday with a 24-mile race from Mairehau to Kaiapoi and back, through Clarkville. Results were:— , Senior—C. Rose (3imin), 56mm 27sec, 1, E. C. Hall (2Jmin), 55min 42 l-ssec, 2; I. O’Donnell (2imin), 55mln 42 2-ssec, 3; V. Martin (42min), 57min 57 3-ssec, 4; L. J. Palmer (2imin), 55min 43sec, 5; L. Ellis (4min), 57min 13 l-ssec, 6; E. S. Bayard (4min), 57min 13 2-ssec, 7. C. Hall (scr) secured fastest time, 54 min 12sec, and F. Stoddard (scr) second fastest time, 54min 12 l-ssec. Junior—A. Mullins (2Jmin), 29mm 43 sec. 1; A. Hall (3min), 30min 17sec. 2; H. Robinson (3min), 31min 12sec, 3; J. White (scr). 28min 22sec, 4 and fastest timo ’ TECHNICAL CLUB The Technical Club held a 20-mile road race, starting and finishing at the Lincoln road tram terminus. Campbell, starting off scratch on his own, failed to gain fastest time by 15sec. Resultsr—O. Tomson, 50min 50sec, 1; F. Dobby, 50min 50 l-ssec. 2; Len Green, 52min 51sec, 3; L. White, 53min, 4; O. F. Day. 47min 50sec, 5; E. G. Taylor, 47min 50 l-ssec, 6; R. E. Day, 47min 50 2-ssec, 7; J. Campbell, 48 min lOsec, 8; T. Harris, 53min 25sec. 9: R. Robinson. 54min 36sec, 10; O. F. Day secured fastest time, and E. G. Taylor second fastest time. PAPANUI CLUB The Papanui Amateur Cycling Club held a 26i mile race to Woodend and back. I. J. Taylor, R. B. Blakeway, and T. A. Grose conceded starts up to Bmin, and 31 riders competed. The winner, F. M. Longley, is a newcomer to the sport and sprinted well to win by two lengths. Results:—F. M. Longley (Bmin), 69min 49sec, 1; N. Macintosh (51min), 67min ssec, 2; N. M. Perrott (simin), 67min 5 l-ssec, 3; C. J, Brown (54min), 67min 5 2-ssec, 4. Fastest time was registered by I. J. Taylor (scr), time 63min 57 4-ssec; and second fastest by R. B. Blakeway (scr). time, 63min SBsec. CASH SWEEPSTAKE A cash sweepstake road race was held at Spreydon. A small field started with C. Gread on scratch conceding a limit of one and a half minutes. Results:—E. Shaw dimin), time 39min 16sec. 1; R. Wilderomth (Imin), 38min 46 l-ssec, 2; L. B. Carr (30sec), 38mln 16 2-ssec, 3; CGread (scr), 39mln 3sec, 4. Carr established fastest time.
