WOMEN’S TEMPERANCE UNION
Miss Henderson presided at the fortnightly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Women’s Christian Temporaries Union. A vote of sympathy was passed with Mrs Woods, president cf the Linwood Union, in the death of a sister and a brother. Letters of thanks were received for the assistance given by members on Poppy Day and with the Young Men’s Christian Association street collection. Members promised to assist with the street collection of the Society for the Protection cf Women and Children. A letter was read from Mrs Norrie CTimaru) to interest members in the making of comforts for sailors who go to the Seamen’s Institute. A sample of a cretonne bag was shown, and it was stated that gifts of comforters and scarves would also be acceptable. Information was given regarding temperance essay competitions for school children, the closing day for entries being July 4. Gold and silver medals will be given for prizes. Letters of thanks were received from Sisters Allison and Eleanor Dobbie for gifts of clothing sent by members to the Maori mission fields. It was decided to observe White Ribbon Day at the next meeting.
