MAGISTRATE’S COURT
SATURDAY (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) THEFT OF SUIT A youth charged with the theft of a suit valued at £3 was admitted to probation for three months, and was ordered to make restitution of the cost of recovering the suit. He asked, for the sake of his parents, that his name be not published, and the magistrate said that, although, because the boy had been previously convicted, he could make no order, he would ask the newspapers to suppress the name. DRUNKENNESS Mary McKegney appeared for sentence on a charge of drunkenness, on which she had previously been ordered to come up for sentence if called on, on condition that she stayed in the Mount Magdala Home. Defendant had appeared again to ask that she might be transferred somewhere away from the home, and was convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. The magistrate said that unfortunately there was no other home to which she could be sent, as she requested.
CHILDREN’S COURT Before Mr F. F. Feid, S.M. Mrs T. Green, and Mr W. M. West, J. sP.) SMOKING UNDER AGE Two boys, both under 13 years of age, appeared on a charge of smoking in a public place. TRAFFIC OFFENCES For riding on the footpath a boy aged 15 was fined 2s 6d. Cycling without a light —A youth, aged 16, was fined 2s. Riding three abreast —A youth, aged 16, was admonished and discharged.
