IMMIGRATION PLAN SUPPORTED
FARM LABOUR POSITION ( .USES ANXIETY i,i'llEdS ASSOCIATION TKLEUIIASu.) NEW PLYMOUTH, June 12. Support for an immigration scheme on the lines of that proposed in the Auckland province was given by the North Taranaki executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union to-day, when grave anxievy was expressed about the farm labour position in the coming production season. It was said that farmers could not hope to compete with the Public Works wages of £4 for a five-day week. The Auckland scheme proposed immigration of young single men, selected carefuLy to ensure their usefulness to New Zealand farmers.
