EYRE COUNTY COUNCIL

▼ The monthly meeting of the Eyre County Council was attended by Messrs H. E. Evans, H. A. Bennett. John Cowens, J. E. Horrell, and A. J. Rich. Mr Evans, the retiring chairman, reported that there was an amount of £I4OO in credit at the end of the yeai. The current year should end with a credit. Mr Evans refused to accept nomination, and Mr Bennett was elected chairman for the current year. It was decided to make repairs to the asphalt footpath in the Kaikainui settlement by day labour. It was decided not to agree to the wages and terms of employment suggested for the council’s outside staff by the National Federation of Labour, and to leave the matter to the Counties’ Association for adjustment. A decision was made, subject to the approval of the Main High /ays Board, about the amount to offer the landowners for the purchase of land required for the Ohapuku deviation, Messrs Evans and Horrell were appointed delegates to a conference of local bodies called by the Progress League to discuss the proposed fiveyear sealing programme. Mr Evans was appointed the council’s representative on the No. 14 District Highways Council.
