CO TBS SOTTOB or CHS PUSS. Sir,—Some years ago, when I was in England a gentleman came to see me His trade name is Goodins. He told me that he had an order for two tons of potatoes called Vitality for seed purposes from New Zealand. He asked me if I could teU him the reason for sending for them, as they were a new variety on their, third year from being produced. The price at the time was about £4O a ton. My answer to him was that you were troubled with the blight, and the name "Vitality” may have been the attraction. f will not say what w«a said regarding them; the' purchaser would smile if he knew. 1 nave been looking for this variety ip your catalogues. I do not see it about, or has its name been changed? I see you have a potato called Aucklander, long and short top. There is a potato in England called Eclipse, Early Eclipse, or the Old Fortyfold, also a potato called Up-to-Date, which is the sane potato
The John Llewellyn potato is also the “White Elephant* or the Princess Mary. The King Edward and > Arran Chid potatoes are both pink and white with a smooth,skin. The King Edward has deep eyes, and the Arran Chief shallow eyes. There is a lot of difference between the two potatoes. The King Edward is a good cropper under proper conditions, and always commands in England fOs £1 a ton more as a late potato in tl» winter than any other variety. It Is also a good us® when green or HSuf• grown. The Arran Chief is a medium cropper. There is here, I see,epotoU> sold by merchants as Arran Chief. It is a round potato with rough skin ana pink eyes. A white mealy potato when cooked, its real name is too Beauty of Hebron.—Yours, etc., • CERTIFIED SEED. / June 10. 1939.
