SENIOR NOTES Sumner improved one point over last week’s total, when they defeated United on the latter club’s range by eight points. Their total of 630 Included a fine possible by J. Edmonds, and G. Alexander, R. Geddis, C. Hart, and C. Timbrell each with scores of 79 contributed largely to their team’s success. United for the most part shot indifferently. A. King, a last year’s junior shot, in scoring a good possible,. and C. Thom, with a score of 79, were the only members to reveal senior form. This was the first match on United’s new range. Sydenham are to be congratulated upon putting up the fine total of 635 when they defeated the strong Christchurch team by six points. The total, being the highest registered this season, comprised possibles by -H. Barker, R. Morris, W. Tritt, and W. Barrett, three scores of 79 and one of 78. E. Copplestone scored the only possible for Christchurch, and F. Kickenbotham, C. Terrell, F. Whitely, and R. Shaw, each with scores of 79, shot consistently. Cashmere and New Brighton with team totals of 631 fired a drawn match on the Cashmere range. A significant fact was that each side’s total was made up of two possibles, three scores of 79, and three of 78. P. Miller and R. Turner had the possible honours for New Brighton, and R. Taylor and R. Neill had the possible honours for Cashmere. , . .

Christchurch Working Men's Club defeated Marist Bros, on the latter club's new range by 10 points. On account of a fault occurring in the electric wiring, the match did not commence until almost 9 o’clock. R. Davidson and W. Glue scored possibles for the club team, and H. O’Connell with a score of 79 was top-scorer for Marlst Bros.

The position cf. the teams, following the completion of the third week’s matches, shows Christchurch Working Men's Club leading by half a point from Christchurch, Sumner, and Sydenham. The aggregate leaders for the Pimm Cup (counting out lowest shoot) are:— D. Murray (Christchurch), J. Edmonds (Sumner), H. Barker (Sydenham), W. Tabley (Working Men’s Club), R. Davidson (Working Men’s Club), each with a total of 160: and J. Miller (New Brighton). R. Taylor (Cashmere), F. Lee (Cashmere), W. Glue (Working Men’s Club), T Graham (Working Men’s Club), C. Jcssop (Sydenham), W. Barrett (Sydenham), C. Thom (United), A. King (United). F. Matthews’ (Christchurch), F. Hlckenbotham (Christchurch), and C. Timbrell (Sumner), each with a total of 150. JUNIOR GRADE NOTES Lyttelton journeyed to town and were defeated by Christchurch Working Men’s Club by 10 points. The club’s team, which shares honours with Heathcote for the highest total for the week, included a good possible by H. Roslndale. L. Symonds. with a score of 69, shot well for Lyttelton. Ward’s Ladies, although meeting defeat by the City Club, were by no means disgraced. A total of 540 is a very creditable performance for a women’s team. Mrs A. B. L. Smith. Miss Dick, and Mrs Corkin. each with scores of 69, shot well for their team. F. Nlcholl. R, Bailey, and B. Turner with scores of 60 were top-scorers for the victors. A close match was fired between Hutchinson’s Motors and Christchurch, on the former club’s range, resulting in a win for Hutchinson’s Motors by the narrow margin of two points. A. Purves and L. Willis, each with possibles, were topscorers for the motor firm’s team, while C. Wear with a possible was top-scorer for Christchurch.

United journeyed to Kaiapoi and suffered their third successive defeat at the hands of the Kaiapoi Working Men’s Club team by five points. F. Bryden (Kaiapoi Working Men’s Club) and E Shipley (United) had the possible honours for the match.

Sydenham met defeat on the Heathcote faaee by five points, and Railway had httle difficulty in defeating Cashmere on the Railway range, by four points. The teams' table now shows Kaiapoi Working Men’s Club and Christchurch Working Men's Club, both unbeaten teams, leading by half a point from Railway. The leaders of the Ashby Cup aggregate (with lowest shoot cut out) are;—L. Smart (Christchurch) 140 and F. McNae (Cashmere). F. Nlcholl (City), R. PRESIDENT’S GRADE NOTES Marist Bros, and Christchurch was the closest match in the A section. Shaw with 69 was top-scorer for Christchurch. In a match of low totals. Lyttelton defeated Railway at Lyttelton by three points. W. Whltford, with a possible, was

top scorer for Lyttelton, and S. Ballinger, with 68, was top scorer for Railway. Celtic Ladles surprised even their most sanguine supporters when they put up the excellent total of 537, thereby beating the Christchurch team by 16 points. Their total, which was the highest in the B section, included three good scores of 69 by Mrs Whittaker, Miss H. Wheller, and Miss N. Fox. The ladies’ team is to be congratulated upon its very meritorious performance. Dominion Motors suffered defeat by the narrow margin of one point at the hands of the Sumner team, on the former club’s range. C. Carter, with a score of 69, was lop scorer for Sumner, and K. Smith, with 68, was top scorer for the motor firm’s team.

New Brighton Ladies triumphed over Hutchinson’s Motors at New Brighton by 26 points. Mrs L. Duncan, with a score of 68, shot well for tile ladies’ team. Sumner, the only undefeated team, are leading by one point from Celtic Ladies and New Brighton Ladles in the Bishop Cup competition, and Marlst Old Boys, also undefeated, are leading by one point from Cashmere and Christchurch Gas Company. A. Sherratt (Marlst-), with 140, and W. Betteridge (Cashmere), with 139, are the leaders for the Tisdall Cup (one shoot cut out). Mrs Ragg (New Brighton), Miss H. Wheller (Celtic), Mrs Crocker (Ward’s), and Miss Dick (Ward’s) are the leaders for the Reece Cup (lowest shoot cut out). Jottings J. Edmonds, of the Sumner Club, has scored a possible in each of the matches fired by his club. The Celtic Ladies held their weekly hotty button shoot last week. Miss E. Dafl won the button for first-year shots with a score of 64, and Miss N. Fox won the match button with the score of 60. At the weekly practice shoot of the New Brighton Ladies’ Club, the best scores were: Mrs E. Caldwell 69, Mrs A. H. Ragg 69, Mrs H. A. Bishop 68, Mrs L. Duncan 69, Mrs M. Moses 67. Mrs Ragg gained the point for the club pendant for the week. In the tyro’s shoot, the best scores were: Miss D. Moses 64, Miss J. Miller 62, Mrs G. Perry 63, and Miss M. Rondel 61. Miss D. Moses gained the point for the Tisdall Button.

The leading scores in the Marlst Brothers’ practice shoot held last week were;— Senior; R. Hurley 79, W. Whittaker 78, W. Lennie 78, H. O’Connell 78, G. Falgar 78, B. Jefferson 78, and J. McCarthy 78. President’s Grade; H. Gillum 79, H. Molloy 78. L. Walklin 76, R. Ball 76. D. Crowe 76. The club’s weekly sweepstake resulted:—D. Crowe, 76, 7—83, 1; H. O’Connell, 78, 3—Bl, 2. The senior hotty button was won by R. Hurley with a score of 79, and the President’s Grade button was won by H. Gillum with a score of 79. The first round of the club championship has now been completed, and L. Ryan and H. Grant are leading with a total of 159 each. The club’s first handicap trophy shoot will take place during June. The United Club’s hotty button competion for first-year shots conducted last week was won by J. Thomas with a score of 67. The competition for’ Mr W. Sampson’s trophy was won by C. Malzard, 69, 4—'7o. The New Zealand Association Invites entries for the Winchester Cup competition, to be fired between June 1 and June 13. The entry is open to teams of five men, the conditions being as under; 20 shots a man, all to count, on two targets, two shots on each bull. A feature of the shoot Is that every man must complete his 20 shots before leaving the firingpoint. The metric targets will be used for this competition. A trophy given by Mr G. Bowman was competed for by the Ashburton Miniature Rifle Club last Wednesday. The competition comprised three shoots, the winner being E. Hickman., Scores: E. Hickman (30), 76. 74, 70; H. Hickman (8), 73, 76, 74; T. F. Smith (4). 80, 75, 78; L. McNatty (6). 79, 78, 80; R. Reddocliffe (30), 76. 73, 79; W. Corbett (13), 72, 78. 77; R. Coker (12), 76, 75, 72; R. McNattv and T. F. Smith.

The third shoot in the first competition of the Westport Territorial Miniature Rifle Club resulted in the following scores:— R. Fountaine, 79. I—-80; S. Wood. 79. 1—80; J. Neill, 69, 10—79: J. R. The Greymouth Club's first competition for President L. Forrest’s trophy was fired on the club’s range last Tuesday. S. Sharman and F. Moiloy tied for the hotty button with the score of 69. the shoot-off resulting in a win for S. Sharman with the score of 68. The following were the leading scores;—F. Moiloy, 69, 5 —70; G. Smith, 68. 2—70; L. Forrest, 67, 3—70; R. Peek, 65. 8—70; A. Beck, 62, 8—70; J. Malloy, 65, 5—70; D. Blocksage, 66, 10—70; J. Efford, 66, 6—70; L. Hughes, 64. 8—70; S. Sharman, 69, scr—B9; M. Garth, 64. 5—69. The shoot-off between S. Common and J. Gagllardl for Mr A. Harrison’s trophy resulted in a win for S. Common with a score of 65.

Next Thursday a Christchurch team will take part in the Empire cities’ match, which was won in 1935 by Toronto, Canada. The Christchurch Association is making Its debut this year in the competition. which is conducted by the Society of Miniature Rifle Clubs. London. The following is the team;—D. Murray, F. Mathews, R.
