CHRISTCHURCH CENTRE MEETS REMITS FOR DOMINION COUNCIL Remits for the annual meeting of the council of the New Zealand Bowling Association, to be held in Wellington on July 1, were considered by the Christchurch Bowling Centre, at a meeting last evening. Mr A. F. Rollinson presided. The centre had three remits before it, and two of these were approved. One, moved by Mr T. D. Lennie, sought a reduction in official entertainment by the president at Dominion tournaments. This was not approved. A second, moved by Mr Lennie, suggested an increase in the number of prizes at the annual tournament, and the third, moved by Mr W. Healey, sought a more drastic penalty for bowlers playing matches with unstamped bowls. Mr Lennie’s first remit was as follows:—•

“While appreciating the generosity of past presidents in their lavish entertainment of competitors and their friends at the annual Dominion tournaments. the Christchurch centre considers that too much is expected of the Dominion president in this way, and is of opinion that the time is opportune to suggest a reduction of official entertainment at the gathering.” Mr Lonnie contended that it was not fair to ask a man to pay nearly £IOO for entertainment at the Dominion tournament. Moreover, the present practice might keep good men out of office, and it was time a change was made. After several speakers had said the time was not opportune for the Christchurch centre to suggest a change, the proposal U* forward the remit was put and lost by a fairly large majority.

Mr Lennie’s second remit, as follows, was approved without discussion: “That the Christchurch centre suggests to the Dominion executive, the advisability of increasing the number of prizes in each competition at the annual tournament from two to four, rearranging the amounts If necessary." Mr Healey’s remit was as follows: “That bowlers using unstamped bowls should be required to forfeit all games they have won with them.” In the discussion on the remit, it was argued that one of the rules already provided that a player using bowls not conforming with official requirements. should forfeit the game in which he was discovered using them, but several speakers contended that that penalty was not sufficiently severe and was hardly fair to defeated players in games In which the Illegal bowls were not noticed. The proposal to send the remit forward was carried unanimously. CARL MADSEN SHIELD Four teams took part In the Carl Madsen Shield series at Olympia last evening.
