BRIDGE EVENING AT DARFIELD
There was a good attendance at the flag bridge and “five hundred” party recently arranged by the Darfield Horticultural Society in aid of its funds. Numerous friends and supporters unable to attend sent donations among those being Mr and Mrs C. G. Jarman, Mr and Mrs L. Wright, Mr and Mrs J. Gunn, Mrs G. C. Warren, Mrs W. W. Mulholland, Mrs J. H. Jarman and Mr H. Gillanders. Bridge prizes were awarded to Miss Stewart, Mr L. Clinton. and R. Stewart, and Mesdames A. Sanson, H. Barker, and Miss F. Sanson. The winners of the five hundred were Mrs Otten, Miss Painter, and Mr C. Borthwick, and Mesdames Borthwick, J. Painter, and Mr H. Otten. Personal Before his departure for Waimahaka, Mr Trevor Hennessey was met by his fellow employees of the Darfield post office, and was presented with a travelling gift. DANCE AT LINCOLN The weekly card and dance evening was held in the Public Hall under the auspices of the Lincoln Basketball Club, White’s band played the music, and an extra was provided by Miss Irene Woods. Novelty dances were won by Miss Elsie Ford and Mr P. McCabe, Miss Kathleen Miller and Mr O. Watkins. Mr Fred. Ford was master of ceremonies. Euchre prizes were won by Mesdames R. Macpherson (Christchurch), W. Jordan, Messrs A. Chesman, and T. Clements. Basketball The Lincoln A team beat Lincoln B by 12-8. Miss Maisie Gillett was referee. Personal Mr A. Ralston, of the local post office staff, who Is leaving on transfer to Albury, was the recipient on Saturday of a presentation from the members of the postal railway staff. Mr A. J. Lysaght (postmaster), in making Mr Ralston a present of a suitcase, spoke of his good work in the office and of the friendly relations which always existed between him and the other members. Mr W. Boyd (stationmaster) also joined in wishing Mr Ralston a happy time in his new position. BROOMFIELD A euchre party and dance was held by the school committee. The prizes for the euchre were won by Mrs J. Ketallick and Miss Joyce Ellis and Messrs E. Turpin and W. Watson. Music for the dancing was played by Mr Clark, of Amber ley. Messrs J. Streeter and W. Ellis were masters of ceremonies. School Reopened School reopened on Monday after a fortnight’s vacation. YALDHURST The Yaldhurst branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union held a benefit euchre party in the schoolroom recently. The most successful players were Miss I. Curtis and Mr B. Chisnall. Consolation prizes were awarded to Miss Mason and Mr N. Bradbrook.
