DEATH OF CYCLIST ON MAIN HIGHWAY
(PBE9S ASSOCIATION TELBOSAMJ PALMERSTON NORTH, May 5. When the quarterly criminal session of the Supreme Court was opened, Mr Justice Ostler, in his chatge to the Grand Jury, congratulated the district on its comparative freedom from crime, stating that there was only one case for consideration. The Grand Jury returned no bill in the case of Vernon Maurice Greer, who was charged with negligently driving a motor-car on the Himatangi highway on March 28, thereby causing the death of a cyclist, Ernest John Edie, of Oroua Downs. A recommendation that a red reflector and a white rear mudguard should be made compulsory on all cycles throughout New Zealand was made by the Grand Jury. A statement was made in the depositions that the cyclist had no light, no rear reflector, and no white rear gudguard. Mr Justice Ostler undertook fo see that the recommendation is forwarded to the proper quarter.
