LYTTELTON NEWS
GOLF More expense than usual is having to be met this year by the Lyttelton Golf Club, because its links at Charteris Bay have had an exceptional growth of grass, and two of the fairways have had to be cut twice. The worse fairway has also had 2000 sheeo grazing on it. The fairways are now said to be in fairly good order. Usually they have only to be cut once, or even only to be burnt off. The club hopes, however, to have the links in good order for the Banks Peninsula chamr>ionships, which will be played at Charteris Bay on August 9. . A Ladies' Golf Union medal match will be played on the Diamond Harbour Club's course on Saturday, and on Sunday a Canadian mixed foursome will be played. There will be a draw for partners in the mixed foursome. Lodge Meeting Four new members were initiated by officers of Court Papanui Lodge, the champion ritual team in the Canterbury united district, at the quarterly summoned meeting of the Court Queen of the Isles Lodge recently. Bro. H. Ashworth presided over a good attendance. The Papanui Lodge members were accompanied by Bro. E. Rudkin, P.D.C.R., ritual supervisor of the district. An address on the objects and principles of the order were given by Bro. G. O. Sey, P.D.C.R. Bowls The Lyttelton Bowling Club will close its season to-morrow with a progressive doubles competition. Miniature Rifle Shooting The annual meeting of the Lyttelton Gun and Miniature Rifle Club will be held to-morrow night at 7.30.
