RADIO BOARD’S ASSOCIATION WITH NEWSPAPER
From Our Parliamentary Reporter.)
WELLINGTON, April 16
The association of the New Zealand Broadcasting Board with the “Radio Record” was explained by the Postmaster-General (the Hon. F. Jones) in the House of Representatives this afternoon in reply to a question by Mr E. J. Howard (Govt., Christchurch South). Mr Jones said that the “Radio Record was published by a private company, and the contract between the board and the company could be cancelled at any time by giving reasonable notice. That was only fair, because the publishers had advertising contracts dependent upon the publication in the magazine of the board’s programmes. The board had no commitments with the “Radio Record.” The board did not pay anything for the publication of the programmes. When broadcasting was under the control of a private company the “Radio Racord” was paid £SO a week for the publication of programmes.
