MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS
A contribution of £2 2s toward the expenses of sending G. R. Giles and V. r. Boot to the Olympic Games; was made By last evening's meeting of the management committee Of the Canterbury Hockey Association in response to an appeal from the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. ;■ ' There were present at the meeting: Messrs C. S. Clements (chairman), L. L. Smith, F. J. Crawford, E. H. Rogers, I. Davey, W. G. Woodward, L. Oliff, J-'-I*. Squire. P. Gay, E. Harvey; G. Graham, and H. Le Page. The Canterbury Rugby Union wrote saying that its delegates to the Lancaster Park Board of Control would be instructed, not to oppose an application from the Hockey Association ibr the use oi the west ground at the park, and the meeting decided to make such an application. The chairman said that if the application were successful, the most interesting match would be played at Lancaster Park each Saturday. The Avon Hockey Club's application for affiliation was granted. The University Club wrote suggesting that the competitions begin on May 2. but the meeting decided to adhere to its decision to start the competitions on Saturday. The chairman said he had had a conversation With the sports master of Christ's College (Mr T. W. C. Tothill), who had said that hockey was progressing at the college, but that the college felt that it could not enter a team until greater proficiency was attained. The association would be willing to accept the entry of a team from the college at any time, said the chairman.
Messrs Smith, Clements, and E. H. Rogers were appointed a sub-committee to wait upon the donor of a cup for competition among sub-associations affiliated to the association and to ascertain his wishes as to how the cup should be awarded.
START OF COMPETITIONS
DRAW FOR FIRST ROUND ON SATURDAY
The competitions of the Canterbury Hockey Association will begin on Saturday, an entry of 41 teams having been received. The following draw for the first round was approved at last evening's meeting of the association's management committee: —
Senior Grade—Sydenham v. Selwyn, at Hagley Park No. 8 (Messrs H. Teague and C. H.. Franklin); Redcliffs v. Trinity, at Hagley Park No. 7 (Messrs E. Cummins and H. Draper); University v. Technical, at Hagley Park No. 6 (Messrs W. H. Down and R. H. Thomson). Junior A Grade—Harewood v. Sydenham, at Elmwood (Mr J. Oliver); Trinity v. Technical, at Ensor's road (Mr .J. Fahey); Selwyn a bye. Junior B—University v. Sydenham, at Sydenham (Mr P. Cornish); Technical v. Selwyn, at Barrington Park (Mr G. Taylor); Kaiapoi a bye. Third Grade A—Redcliffs v. Sydenham, at Lin wood (Mr F. Iggo); University v. Technical, at Hagley Park No. 3 (Mr D. H. Law); Trinity v. Kaiapoi, at Hagley Park No. 10 (Mr L. Cummins).
