CO-ORDINATION OF ADULT EDUCATION

CONFERENCE TO BE HELD TO-DAY The co-ordination of the work of organisations interested in adult education in New Zealand will be discussed at a conference to be held at the Workers' Educational Association's rooms this morning. Representatives of the association, the British Drama League, the Association for Country Education, the Women's Institute, and the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union will attend. A report to this effect was made at a meeting this week of the district council of the Workers' Educational Association, at which Mr S. Schofield presided.

The secretary (Mr G. Manning) reported that the session would be officially opened on Saturday, when the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr J. W. Beanland) would give an address. Other speakers would be Dr. J. Hight, Professor J. Shelley, and Mr L. F. de Berry. Mr H. D. Acland would preside.

The programme of classes for the year was approved, and the report of the Dominion conference was adopted. It was decided to arrange for the celebration of the twenty-first anniversary of the association in Canterbury. The association began its work in 1915 with two classes, and its progress is shown in the existence to-day of 56 classes with a total of 1319 students.
