RETIREMENT OF FIRE BRIGADE DEPUTY-SUPERINTENDENT To bid farewell to Deputy-Superin-tendent C. J. Blake, of the Christchurch Fire Brigade, who is retiring after 40 years' service in fire brigade work in Christchurch, a gathering of members of the brigade and the fire board was held yesterday at the central fire station. The opportunity was also taken to welcome Mr A. Morrison, formerly superintendent of tfie Hawera Fire Brigade, who, will replace Mr Blake. Mr T, M. Charters, chairman of the board, presented Mr Blake with a cheque and referred to the long record of service which he had had with the Christchurch Fire Board. Mr Blake's record, he said, was probably one of the finest in the fire-fighting service in the Dominion. \ Appreciation of the gift and the remarks made were expressed by Mr Blake, who also commented on the big difference between fire-fighting years ago and present-day conditions, when there were fast motor-cars and a high pressure water system. ■—i mmmmtmmmm ■———■
