CROQUET
GALA TO BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY
The president, Mr A. G. Ross, presided at the meeting of the Canterbury Croquet Association. It was decided to hold a gala at the United Club’s grounds on Wednesday. The competitions arranged by the clubs will begin at 1.30 p.m. The meeting decided that the country clubs arrange the cake and produce stall, and the United Club the afternoon tea. The Mayoress (Mrs J. W. Beanland) will present the flags and silver buttons at 4.15 p.m.
INTERMEDIATE FLAG COMPETITION
The intermediate flag competition was completed on the Sumner Club's lawns. In the play-off of the first section between Edgeware and Rangiora, Rangiora won by 5 games to A. The scores were as follows, Rangiora names first—Mrs Harper 25, Mrs Colville 10; Mrs Banfield 26, Mrs Hore 12; Mrs Thompson 26, Mrs Collins 22; Mesdames Gibbs-Jordan and Harper 26. Mesdames Colville and Scott 23; Mesdames T. Compson and Stanton 21, Mesdames Collins and Tisch 26; Mesdames Bamfield and Turner 26, Mesdames Hore and Lorimer 20. In the final, Redcliffs, Winner of the second section, beat Rangiora, winners in the first section, by 3 to 4. The following are the scores. Rangiora names first: Mrs Harper 20, Mrs Nettlcton 26; Mrs Rowe 10, Mrs Williams 26; Mrs Thompson 26, Mrs Coleman 14; Mrs Stanton 22, A. Nettlcton 26; Mrs Bamfield 22, Mrs Swainson 26; Mrs Turner 26, Mrs Beetay 10; Mesdames Harper and Rowe 12, Mesdames Nettlcton and Williams 26; Mesdames Stanton and Thompson 26, M. Coleman and A. Nettlcton 22; Mesdames Bamfield and Turner 26, Mesdames Beeby and Swainson 17.
