AUTHORS’ WEEK
EXHIBITION ARRANGEMENTS
The safe-keeping of valuable books on loan for the forthcoming. exhibition of New Zealand literature, to be held in the Canterbury ; Public Library, was a subject discussed, at the meeting yesterday of the Christchurch committee elected to prepare for the celebration of Authors? Week. The, chairman, Mr lan Donnelly, explained that arrangements, were being made to house all such volumes in locked glass cases. “Also, it is proposed to, have not* only a custodian, but-two or three other members of the committee on duty, each afternoon and evening,” he added. “Such precautions should convince collectors that valuable, bookslent by them will not be handled by. the. public at any stage of the, exhibition.” Short talks on subjects relating to New Zealand literature,, old and new, are to be a feature of the exhibition of-books and literary relics to be held, during Authors’ Week. At the- meeting yesterday of the committee' responsible for the organisation of the exhibition a sub-committee, comprising Miss Ngaio Marsh, Dr. F. Birkinshaw, and Mr A. C. Brassington was appointed to deal with this branch of the exhibition. ' ' .
