WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

—•. . v. THE PEAKS The annual meeting- of the Peaks Women’s Institute was held in the hall, Mrs Stokes presiding over a fair attendance of members. A letter was read from Miss Warren, who asked members to assist the helpers’ fund. It was decided that a donation should be sent, an d that another should be made to the Crippled Children’s Society. The results of the yearly competitions were announced as follows: S6wing, Mrs McKeegan; cooking, Mrs H. Inch; flowers, Mfs J. Quigley; general intelligence,. Mrs L. Hassal. A copy of the new programme was submitted and discussed. On ' behalf of the members, Mrs W. U. Hewett presented Mrs H. Stokes (retiring president) with a sheaf of dahlias, and Mrs L. H. White presented a posy of flowers to Mrs J. Quigley (retiring secretary), The following committee was -elected:—Mrs H. Stokes (president), Mesdames Inch, McKeegan, W. Hewett, Kennedy, X Hassal, and Miss M. Hewett Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs F. Quigley and Mrs McKeegan.
