LAWN TENNIS
interprovincial fixture CANTERBURY BEATS SOUTH CANTERBURY Canterbury had no difficulty In win-' ning the Inter-provincial tennis match against South Canterbury at Wilding Park on Saturday. Of the 23 matches decided, Canterbury lost only three. One match was unfinished. Canterbury could not field its usual team, H. A. Barnett, A. R. Cant, Misses T. Poole, I. Poole, and N. Bishop not being available. The South Canterbury team was at its strongest. Early in the afternoon a boisterous north-wester made conditions unpleasant for the players, and prevented them from producing their best form.- Indeed, the standard of play was remarkably high in the trying conditions. The Canterbury women, in particular, were much too strong for their opponents, who were all— except in one match—defeated in straight sets, both in the singles %nd the doubles.
