Although under the Licensing Act business premises would have to close from noon on Tuesday for the election of a licensing committee, urgent representations were made by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, the officer in charge of the Labour Department, and Mr S. G. Holland, M.P., to official circles in Wellington yesterday looming. ... 'Advice was received by.the Labour Department in, Christchurch from Wellington in the afternoon that it idll not be necessary for shops to close.
