TRAFFIC CASES The following traffic cases were dealt .with;— . . . * •■'“'•■v Cycling without light: Edward Roland Williams, Patrick Joseph McGilligan, Iris Parsons, ■ ■ William Wilfred Bishop, George Russell Simpson, Maxwell Ellis, Percy Hallett, Frederick Norman Hodge, Rex Mathieson, Francis White, each find 10s and ordered to; pay costs; Ivy Whittaker, convicted and discharged. Riding motor-cycle without license: Martin Francis Patrick Lyons, ordered to pay costs only. Cycling on footpath: Harold Frederick Ward fined 10s and ordered to pay costs.. Parking without lights; Clarence Seton Thomas fined £2 and ordered to pay costs. . Driving in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public: Robert Taylor, fined 20s and ordered to pay costs. < Falling to report accident: Alexander Ronald McDougall, fined 20s and ordered to pay costs. Driving without required lights: Harold James Olsen and Leonard Mooar, each fined 20s and ordered to pay costs. For not having a license Mooar was further fined 5s and ordered to pay costs. Cutting a corner: John Swarbrick, fined £2 and ordered to pay costs. Negligent driving: Colin Boyd Ciark and Daniel Bamford, each fined £2 and ordered to pay costs. Failure to give way to the right: Cyril Joseph Allen fined £2 and ordered to pay costs. ■ ASSAULT PROVED Chung Fu King, at present serving a sentence in prison, in default of payment of a fine, was convicted of assaulting another Chinese by hitting him on the head with a poker, Sub-Inspector D. A. Mac Lean said that the exact cause of the trouble Wss nOf knOwn but that words had been used, culminating in accused being called a “lazy loafer” and this' had provoked the assault. Evidence was given by two Chinese who were in the house at the time,-and they were sworn in by blowing out a match and gave .their evidence through an : interpreter. Chung Fu King was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment, to be taken concurrently with the term he is. at present serving. !' DRUNKENNESS ■ Cecilia Olds pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, and not guilty to a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond in not having lawful visible means of supports On the first charge she was convicted and discharged, and on .the second a' remand until Moniday' was granted. . ; - ' Henry Kilgour/for a third offence of drunkenness within six months was fined 20s and ordered, to pay costs. Imprisonment in default of payment was fixed at seven days. BREACH OF PROBATION Henry Martin (Mr C. V. Lester) was convicted and discharged for a breach of his release on probation. CHARGES DISMISSED Albert William Cousins (Mr C. S, Thomas) pleaded not guilty to driving a motor-car negligently in Cashel street on January 24. The charge arose out of a collision between defendant and a 15-year-old girl, Patricia Jean Slater, at the intersection of Cashel street and Clive street, about 6.15 p.m. The charge was dismissed. A charge of negligent driving, also dismissed, was brought against Victor Herbert Seymour Pulley (Mr W. F. Tracy). A charge of driving with lights not up to the required standard was also laid, and Pulley pleaded guilty, being fined 20s and ordered to pay costs. •
