TRIBUTES TO WORK OF MR A. M'NEIL

Fast and present inspectors of Canterbury schools, and their wives, met yesterday to say good-bye to Mr A, McNeil, formerly senior inspector of Canterbury, and Mrs McNeil The afternoon tea was held in Beath’a tea rooms.

Mr J. Wyn Irwin, on behalf of the past and present inspectors, in presenting Mr McNeil with a case of pipes and a pouch, and Mrs McNeil with a crystal vase, referred to Mr McNeil’s sterling qualities as a senior inspector, his devotion to duty, his wide and deep knowledge of educational organisation and administration, and the esteem and affection in which he'was held by his • colleagues and the Canterbury teachers.

Tribute was also paid to the gracious manner In which Mrs McNeil had assisted in the social side of her husband’s work.

Letters of appreciation were read from Mr C. N, Haslam,senior inspector of Taranaki, Mr S. J. Irwin, senior inffibctjw of Southland, and Mr C. N. wyllie, formerly senior inspector of Southland.

Speeches eulogising Mr McNeil and his work were also made by Messrs Mi McLeod, W. Brock, G. P, Graham, P. Evans, G. Raymond, S. A.- Clark, P..A, Bates, J. -P. Hawke, A. Lake, and W, A- Service. , Mr McNeil, in responding, dealt interestingly with many phases of his life as an inspector, and thanked-all for their gift and for their kindly references to himsielf and. his work, Mrs McNeil also responded, . Opportunity was taken to welcome Mr W. A- Service, the new' senior inspector of Canterbury, and his wife,
