RUGBY FOOTBALL
TWO MORE PROMINENT PLAYERS LOST REPORT OF SYDENHAM CLUB A most successful year from a playing viewpoint is announced in the annual report of the Sydenham Rugby Football Club to be presented to the annual meeting of members this evening. The senior team finished second in the first-grade competition of the Canterbury Rugby Football Union. Lower grades did exceptionally well, as out of a total of 12 teams six won their grades and three others were second. In addition, some most interesting friendly matches were played. The senior team was weakened through the loss of- both F. T. J. French and A. I. Crockett, who left during the season for England, where they will play Rugby League football. This brings the total of Sydenham Club members who have gone to England to six. “We sincerely hope that we have finished with this ‘poaching,’ ” continues the report, “and that we can now look forward to a more settled state of things.” Throe members of the club gained provincial representative honours during the season. They were O. Hattersley, R. Brown, and L. Brown. O. Hattersley, I. Crockett, and L. Brown also participated in several of the All Black trial matches. Several successful socials were arranged during the year. The following contributed donations to the club: Messrs A. Alexander, H. Booth. H. E. Crust. G. Dobbs, D. Farr, F. S. Griffiths. W. A. George, W. E. Munday, A. E. McPhail, G. Scott, and G. J. Smith. Although members who had not paid their subscriptoins were circularised recently there were still many outstanding, continued the report. The maintenance of the club rooms during the last two years had also caused some concern to the committee, there being a loss of £BS. In conclusion, the report; expresses thahks to members, friends, and supporters for their support. -
